Roundtable Discussion

Future-Ready: Empowering High School Students with
Career Guidance is a roundtable under Al Ghurair Connect
by the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation.
This roundtable brings together school leaders, career
counselors, and education stakeholders to collectively
explore how we can better prepare high school students for
the future world of work. Rather than presenting structured
solutions, this session aims to open a space for dialogue
where we can listen, learn, and exchange ideas around
enhancing career guidance for youth.
We want to hear directly from those on the ground about
what is working, what gaps exist, and how we can
collectively expose students to diverse career paths and
support them in making informed choices about their
futures.
At the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation, we are committed to
co-creating impactful solutions with our partners. Your
insights will help shape future initiatives that empower
Emirati youth to be future-ready and confident in their
personal and professional journeys.

Why Should you Attend?

This roundtable will provide a platform for school leaders,
career counselors, and education stakeholders to openly
discuss the current challenges in career counseling for
Emirati youth and to collectively explore solutions that can
better support students in making informed decisions about
their academic and career futures.

Discussion Points:

Understanding the Gaps in Career Counseling for Emirati Students
  • Explore the current landscape of career guidance in
high schools, particularly how effectively it is helping
Emirati students prepare for university and future
    careers.
  • Identify key challenges such as limited guidance on
choosing Cycle 3 stream (public school) or courses
for 10th – 12th grade, as it relates to preparation for
university majors and future careers, university
selection and major selection, MoE, ADEK, and other
    university scholarship opportunities and eligibility
criteria,  lack of awareness around in-demand skills
    and industries.
Discuss differing career guidance needs of Emirati
students by age/grade, starting from 9th grade

  • Examine how existing counseling practices can be
strengthened to help students better understand
their strengths, interests, and the academic paths
    available to them.
  • Define what effective, future-ready career counseling
should look like in the UAE context.

  • Explore how schools, youth-serving organizations,
universities, and employers can work together to
ensure Emirati students receive meaningful career
    exposure and guidance.
  • Discuss potential partnerships and initiatives to
address existing gaps and enhance student
    preparedness for long-term success.
